At Home in Tehuacana - The Quarantine Changes

Summer is here and we’ve been missing each other.  In the last three months, we have had the opportunity to notice the nesting birds, beautiful and happy birds, in our small town.  We had a wonderful spurt of steady rain earlier in the spring to help the wildflowers and garden beds along.  I enjoyed and was happy that Mexia ISD was open to serving the children of our community daily as our immediate health crisis loomed.  I also have made a personal realization that Tehuacana may be on the cusp of becoming a wooded community as all trees are becoming shade trees and some competing to be the highest roost for our neighborhood buzzard friends.  Our squirrels are becoming tamer, and the sound of the hill’s coyotes are seeming closer every evening.

But most of all I have learned how fellowship and talking to one another make up so much of our existence in our community.  We meet once a month to solve municipal problems, we discuss fire safety once a month, we look forward to getting our mail to satisfy the need to greet someone daily, even if it was behind a plastic shield. We make countless phone calls to our charity groups and church and immediate families. We became sure that sitting in front of a Zoom session with your grandkids doesn’t come close to having them run through the house out-of-control. But we miss the hugs and handshakes and we might not ever fuss again at the grandchildren running out-of-control. We’ve missed the stories and yarns and even the exaggerated tales to “spark” the remembrances we need to.

Today, I am making a few calls to check on the availability of an ice cream truck visit in our community.  Do you remember the two dimes you robbed from the piggy bank never quite allowed you to buy that "Bomb Pop" you really wanted?  So settling for your 2nd favorite "Fudgesicle" that melted within 10 minutes in your hands was the image I remember.  Do you have any images of the Ice Cream Truck that was part of your childhood summer experiences?
